Dustin Hoffman was born August 8, 1937 in Los Angeles, California. His family was originally from Romania. They had moved to Chicago, and before Dustin was born his father made the move to Los Angeles. Dustin has an older brother named Ronald who was named after Ronald Coleman. Dustin is named after Dustin Farnum. Dustin's first acting role was as Tiny Tim in a school play - "A Christmas Carol." He intended to pursue music as a career but he switched courses and attended the Pasadena Playhouse where he studied acting. He moved to New York City and pursued an acting career for 10 years playing a variety of roles. One day he was called in to do an audition for a film directed by Mike Nichols called "The Graduate" which began his success in films. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in "The Graduate." His co-stars were Anne Bancroft and Katherine Ross. His next role was the character of Ratso Rizzo in the movie "Midnight Cowboy." He starred with Jon Voight. Dustin and Jon Voight were both nominated for an Academy Award for their roles in "Midnight Cowboy" but they split the votes between them and neither won. |
